Writer Anna Sochocky is offering what looks like a great writing class this fall in Santa Fe:
In September, the Santa Fe Community College Continuing Education department will launch a new class entitled: The Horse in Memoir, Poetry, and Fiction. Led by writer and enthusiastic horse owner and rider, Anna Sochocky, the inaugural course will offer an opportunity for horse lovers and readers of all ages to delve immerse themselves in a selection of equine-focused literature.
The course begins on Saturday, September 16th and continues through Saturday, October 21st. The cost of the course is $129 payable to the Santa Fe Community College. To register, please call 505-428-1676.
For those of you interested in Western Dressage the Colorado Horse Park in Parker, CO is holding 2 one day shows, August 5th and 6th. This show will be double pointed WDAA Recognized show. You can find more information on the WDAA calendar: http://westerndressageassociation.org/all-wdaa-recognized-shows/
There is a great series of fun shows happening in Lamy, NM (just outside of Santa Fe a bit) to help raise funds for local good guy and horse trainer Loal Tucker’s medical expenses. This is a really cool place to show….they have indoor and outdoor arenas and MOST WONDERFUL trail riding! Here is a link to the informative PDF: Loal-Tucker-Horse-show-series-2017
We found a GREAT “local” blanket laundry and repair at Desert Sky Ranch. Heather is a no nonsense person that knows just the right thing to help your horse blankets last longer and stay clean. We had a great e-mail from her:
“All of my pricing is online here:http://thedesertskyranch.com/service/horse-blanket-repair-laundry-services/
I will also call you if I think a blanket isn’t worth being repaired and let you make the decision, so there’s no wasting money.
Feel free to call me 505-859-2979 when you want to mail or drop off.”
We all can’t wait for this spring to get her the blankets…….especially after this LONG season of February mud! Thanks in advance Heather!
BIG NEWS!! The AQHA has approved Western Dressage for 2018. As soon as we know the hoops we need to acquire quarter horse points for our horses competing in Western Dressage we will be sure to pass it on!
And just to put on your calendar: the horse shows at the State Fair here in Albuquerque start on the 9th of September. They are aiming for 2017 to be recognized by the WDAA as well. YAHOOOO!!!!! Western Dressage should start at noon on Monday the 11th, 2017. Did we mention that any class at the NM State Fair that has at least 3 entries awards prize money? How cool is it to win money riding Western Dressage?
Since we are talking about the State Fair they are again offering the great Ranch Horse Challenge. It was great fun and the more the merrier (to say nothing of winning money at the fair)!! Friday the 15th of September is the date.
Santa Fe’s HIPICO is the place to be this summer with all sorts of events……the jumping series run through out the summer: https://www.hipicosantafe.com/
